The RS-485 LAN surge diverter connects to any LAN input of Inner Range Integriti or Inception controllers and modules; the module must have a protective earth connection nearby. It limits transient voltage to a level that is safe for the equipment by conducting the large surge current to ground. The most common source of surges is a nearby lightning strike inducing voltage into data lines; industrial transients are caused, for example, by switching large lighting loads, starting electric motors and welding equipment.
