INTREPID MicroPoint II is Southwest Microwave's fence-mounted perimeter protection system that detects attempts to cut or climb the fence. The Processor Module (PM II) is the brain of the system: it sends a pulse down the sensor cable and uses time domain reflectometry (TDR) to find where on the fence a disturbance occurred. Digital signal processing tells a local impact (cutting, climbing) apart from distributed noise caused by wind, rain or passing traffic, keeping nuisance alarms low. One module handles two cables (A and B) of up to 220 m each and covers up to 400 m of fence. Zones are set in software independently of the processor location and can be changed later. Using FSK communication, the module distributes DC power and data along the sensor cable, so no extra wiring is needed; it connects to the system controller over RS422 using the INTREPID Polling Protocol II. INTREPID MicroTrack II and MicroWave 330 sensors and I/O modules can be networked in the same system.
