Xtralis OSID (Open-area Smoke Imaging Detection) is an optical beam smoke detector for large open spaces, made up of an imager and one or more emitters. The emitter sends synchronised ultraviolet and infrared pulses to the imager; comparing the two wavelengths lets the system tell smoke apart from dust, steam and objects in the beam and gives repeatable smoke obscuration readings. The imager's CMOS imaging chip has a wide field of view, finds and tracks the emitters itself and compensates for drift caused by building movement – no precise alignment is needed and the system commissions itself in under ten minutes. It is configured with DIP switches, offers selectable alarm thresholds and connects to any conventional fire alarm panel through its alarm and fault relays. An event log helps analyse faults and alarms afterwards. The OSI-10 is a narrow (7° × 4°) field-of-view imager for one emitter: the detection range is 30–150 m with a standard power emitter and 100–200 m with a high power emitter (up to 180 m in UKCA and VdS compliant installations).
